About Honest Links
Honest Links is the brainchild of two webmasters on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Harold Stone (hereafter known as Tex) and Gary Mchugh met as fellow owners of online dating sites, who were running the same dating software. They met in the forum of the site that created that software and over a period of time they helped each other with a few little glitches in the program.
During the next year or so that working relationship developed, they not only continued to help each other with problems, but shared new promotion ideas, actively promoted each others sites to their members, and shared ideas on link exchange.
After reading a newsletter from a well known webmasters portal with the subject "Reciprocal Linking Is Dead" both Tex and Gary took exception to it and had a long debate on how hap hazard and unconsidered many such articles were becoming. They then started to take a hard look at the advice that webmasters are being given in general by the webs self proclaimed "Experts" and "Gurus". They were astounded at how
one directional that advice had become so they decided to write an article of their own.
The article was aimed at proving reciprocal linking is not dead and that it's purpose had just been lost. As their article developed, and ideas were banded around, they even shocked themselves at how dangerous and incomplete the advice of the Experts and Guru's is. They realized that not only was this advice not bringing traffic to websites, it was closing down the worldwide web and creating a more rigid traffic network emanating mostly from search engines.
As a result the "Who Killed Reciprocal Linking?" story was born. After writing the article Tex and Gary decided it wasn't enough, they had to share the discovery with other webmasters and get reciprocal linking back to the very successful traffic generating method it used to be.
They decided to build Honest Links. A place where webmasters could be re-educated that the point of reciprocal linking is traffic, NOT rankings, a place where those who understood that could find other link partners of the same mindset and a place where webmasters could meet and help each other with all sorts of site related problems.
So here is the result of their work. Tex and Gary are confident it will be of great use to many webmasters, help them build their traffic, reduce their advertising costs and at the same time, help repair the world wide web.
